This is an Act to provide for setting out the practical regime of right to information for citizens to secure access to information under the control of public authorities, in order to promote transparency and accountability in the working of every public authority. Central Information Commission and State Information Commissions have been constituted.

Every State Government shall, by notification in the official Gazette, constitutea body to be known as the

(name of the State) Information Commission.

Every Public authority shall designate many officers as State Public Information

Officers in all administrative units or officers  under it  as may be necessary 

to provide information to persons requesting for the information under this Act.

 

Under State Public Information Officer, there are many Assistant Public Information

Officer at each district or any sub-ordinate officer. A list shows details of State Public

Information Officer & Assistant Public Information Officers under Backward  Classes

Welfare Department.

A person who desires to obtain any information under this Act shall make a request in writing in English or Hindi or in the official language of the area in which the application is being made accompanying such fee as may be prescribed to/State Public Information Officer specifying the particulars of the information sought by him or her. On receipt of the request, State Public Information Officer as expeditiously as possible and in any case within thirty days of the receipt of the request either provide the information or reject the request for any reasons mentioned under section 8 and 9 of said Act.

When a request has been rejected, State Public Information Officer, shall communicate to the person making the request.

1.            the reasons of such rejection

2.            the period within which an appeal against such rejections may be preferred and

3.            the particulars of the appellate authority
